Pay Attention

What would your life be like if you were able to focus your attention on three priorities for a week? What if you were able to concentrate, focus and actually complete those activities, in spite of the usual distractions?

“In the final analysis, the quality of our life depends on our ability to consciously choose who and what we give our thoughts, interests moments and emotions to.”  — Author Sam Horn, in Conzentrate: Get Focused and Pay Attention – When Life Is Filled With Pressures, Distractions, and Multiple Priorities (2000).

Concentration is becoming a lost art – for me, too!  It is such an important part of our lives – yet we are losing sight of it.  Life is all about what we pay attention to.  If we are paying all of our attention on the trivial, meaningless things – our lives will reflect exactly that – the trivial and meaningless.  If we put our attention and focus on meaningful, positive things, again, our lives will reflect that and we’ll have a meaningful, positive life.  This is profoundly simple – and one of life’s great truths.

“Our experience is what we attend to.” —William James

If we chronically multi-task and engage in scattered thoughts, we will have scattered, chaotic lives. The fast-paced world we live in is very distracting. We are constantly bombarded by information, e-mail, phone calls and news.

Learning or re-learning the art of focus and concentration helps us focus on and in the moment, instead of frantically rushing from moment to moment.  The Pareto Principle says that 80 percent of our results comes from only 20 percent of our efforts.  That means that only about 20 percent of our activities actually provide the results we are looking for.

So what would your life look like – how would it be different – if you devoted more time and energy to the crucial 20 percent of your activities?  Might you accomplish more, have better relationships, and more life satisfaction?  Why not give it a try for a day?  A  week?  A month?  It might turn into a great lifetime habit!  I’m certainly giving it a go!

Have you ever noticed how life ebbs and flows like the waves in the ocean? They (if anyone can ever tell me who they are, it will solve one of the great mysteries of my life) say when it rains, it pours things happen in threes in or in bunches and so on. Its true. And I have been riding one of those waves lately. A tidal wave of gratitude. So many wonderful things have been happening in both my personal and professional life, I am in awe and deep appreciation of all of it! As I ride this wave, I am reminded once again of the power of intention and purpose. When we find our sweet spot in life; when we know we are doing our best work and living in each moment; when we start each morning with a quiet knowing that we will win the day; and when we have the confidence and strength to move beyond, through, around or over the obstacles that show up then we create a momentum driven by intention that is simply profound. What follows is clarity, FUN!, and the joy of living each day in gratitude

Have you ever done something that was scary, but also exhilarating? Forced you to let down your defenses and barriers? Put you at personal risk, tested your courage and ability to truly walk your talk? If you have, then you understand how personally fulfilling and life-changing it can be. And if you have not, I highly recommend that you put yourself out there and give it go. The experience can take many different forms and happen through different kinds of experiences the latest one for me has been to write a book. It is finished and about to be published. I am terrified, excited and thrilled all at the same time. How do you challenge yourself to be and to become your best self and to walk your talk? Its a life long journey and we do not always succeed, but its about the doing of it and the learning from it that matters. Through the experience of writing this book, Ive learned a great deal more about myself and others than I could have imagined. I am grateful for the new knowledge,

The only person in the world who can create your life, in your time and in your way is you. And that you must be your most authentic and genuine self, empowered by knowing and doing what only you can do best in the world. As you become more and more focused on the life and legacy you want to create and the person you want to become, you find clarity of purpose, renewed focus and energy and the motivation to re-invent to the next highest level of you. I found myself and my inner champion in three words - inspire, ignite and impact. I found my passion, my purpose my inspiration. I ignited it with a solid strategic plan aligned to my core values and authentic self. And then I took the action necessary to make the impact I dreamed of on my life and the lives of others. And I did it on my terms, in my way and in my time. Transformation and reinvention was the result, and i to the power of 3 was born. Its all about spending the time and effort to grow; learning through the failures and
