Facing up to Your Strengths and Talents

“To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life.” – Baruch Spinoza

Most of us have an excellent sense of our weaknesses, but a poor sense of our talents and strengths. Throughout our education and careers, we become acutely aware of our ‘opportunities for development’, ‘limitations’ or ‘challenges’.

Parents, teachers and managers generally mean well in pointing out our deficits, and indeed, some areas of learning, development and improvement are critical to our success.  But we have become experts in our own weaknesses and spend our lives trying to repair our flaws, while our strengths lie dormant and neglected.

So, why are we so reluctant to focus on our strengths and make them even stronger?  Despite your achievements, you may wonder whether you are as talented as everyone thinks you are. You suspect that luck and circumstance may have played a big part in your getting to where you are today.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure…We ask ourselves, ”Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.” – Marianne Williamson

By not focusing on, learning, understanding and nurturing your strengths, you miss out on discovering more of who you really are – who you are truly meant to become.

It’s challenging for most – but face up to your strengths and talents. Really think about what you do extremely well – and learn how to do it even better!

You will become more true to yourself and even more of who you are meant to be.

Have you ever noticed how life ebbs and flows like the waves in the ocean? They (if anyone can ever tell me who they are, it will solve one of the great mysteries of my life) say when it rains, it pours things happen in threes in or in bunches and so on. Its true. And I have been riding one of those waves lately. A tidal wave of gratitude. So many wonderful things have been happening in both my personal and professional life, I am in awe and deep appreciation of all of it! As I ride this wave, I am reminded once again of the power of intention and purpose. When we find our sweet spot in life; when we know we are doing our best work and living in each moment; when we start each morning with a quiet knowing that we will win the day; and when we have the confidence and strength to move beyond, through, around or over the obstacles that show up then we create a momentum driven by intention that is simply profound. What follows is clarity, FUN!, and the joy of living each day in gratitude

Have you ever done something that was scary, but also exhilarating? Forced you to let down your defenses and barriers? Put you at personal risk, tested your courage and ability to truly walk your talk? If you have, then you understand how personally fulfilling and life-changing it can be. And if you have not, I highly recommend that you put yourself out there and give it go. The experience can take many different forms and happen through different kinds of experiences the latest one for me has been to write a book. It is finished and about to be published. I am terrified, excited and thrilled all at the same time. How do you challenge yourself to be and to become your best self and to walk your talk? Its a life long journey and we do not always succeed, but its about the doing of it and the learning from it that matters. Through the experience of writing this book, Ive learned a great deal more about myself and others than I could have imagined. I am grateful for the new knowledge,

The only person in the world who can create your life, in your time and in your way is you. And that you must be your most authentic and genuine self, empowered by knowing and doing what only you can do best in the world. As you become more and more focused on the life and legacy you want to create and the person you want to become, you find clarity of purpose, renewed focus and energy and the motivation to re-invent to the next highest level of you. I found myself and my inner champion in three words - inspire, ignite and impact. I found my passion, my purpose my inspiration. I ignited it with a solid strategic plan aligned to my core values and authentic self. And then I took the action necessary to make the impact I dreamed of on my life and the lives of others. And I did it on my terms, in my way and in my time. Transformation and reinvention was the result, and i to the power of 3 was born. Its all about spending the time and effort to grow; learning through the failures and
