Affirmations in Action

Most of us are familiar with the idea of using positive affirmations to further our growth, success and achievements, but few understand how or why affirmations really work, or actually use them in our lives on a regular basis.

What is an affirmation? An affirmation is “telling yourself in times of doubt that which you know to be true at other times.”

So how does it work?  The human mind is different from those of other living creatures in that it has two unique parts – the subconscious mind, and the conscious mind.  These two ‘minds’ work together to create our thoughts, behavior and actions. The subconscious mind encompasses the ‘stuff’ of memories, conditioning, the nervous system, emotions, and your most basic underlying attitudes. It continuously sends these thoughts to your conscious mind, where this information is then used to consciously make decisions, determine goals, and gather knowledge for the purpose of taking some kind of action.

“The thing always happens that you really believe in; and the belief in a thing makes it happen.” – Frank Lloyd Wright

Your life is a result of your actions.  Your actions are a result of your thoughts and attitudes.  Those thoughts and attitudes are a direct result of your “automatic guidance system” and it is either operating as a success mechanism or a failure mechanism.

Are you where you want to be?  Is your life the best it can be?  Every day, consciously send your subconscious mind positive affirmations of who and where you want to be – as if you are already there. Your mind is an amazing and powerful gift – use it – it will believe what you tell it to believe and help guide you to the life you want to have and to the person you want to be.

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.” – Marcus Aureluis

Have you ever noticed how life ebbs and flows like the waves in the ocean? They (if anyone can ever tell me who they are, it will solve one of the great mysteries of my life) say when it rains, it pours things happen in threes in or in bunches and so on. Its true. And I have been riding one of those waves lately. A tidal wave of gratitude. So many wonderful things have been happening in both my personal and professional life, I am in awe and deep appreciation of all of it! As I ride this wave, I am reminded once again of the power of intention and purpose. When we find our sweet spot in life; when we know we are doing our best work and living in each moment; when we start each morning with a quiet knowing that we will win the day; and when we have the confidence and strength to move beyond, through, around or over the obstacles that show up then we create a momentum driven by intention that is simply profound. What follows is clarity, FUN!, and the joy of living each day in gratitude

Have you ever done something that was scary, but also exhilarating? Forced you to let down your defenses and barriers? Put you at personal risk, tested your courage and ability to truly walk your talk? If you have, then you understand how personally fulfilling and life-changing it can be. And if you have not, I highly recommend that you put yourself out there and give it go. The experience can take many different forms and happen through different kinds of experiences the latest one for me has been to write a book. It is finished and about to be published. I am terrified, excited and thrilled all at the same time. How do you challenge yourself to be and to become your best self and to walk your talk? Its a life long journey and we do not always succeed, but its about the doing of it and the learning from it that matters. Through the experience of writing this book, Ive learned a great deal more about myself and others than I could have imagined. I am grateful for the new knowledge,

The only person in the world who can create your life, in your time and in your way is you. And that you must be your most authentic and genuine self, empowered by knowing and doing what only you can do best in the world. As you become more and more focused on the life and legacy you want to create and the person you want to become, you find clarity of purpose, renewed focus and energy and the motivation to re-invent to the next highest level of you. I found myself and my inner champion in three words - inspire, ignite and impact. I found my passion, my purpose my inspiration. I ignited it with a solid strategic plan aligned to my core values and authentic self. And then I took the action necessary to make the impact I dreamed of on my life and the lives of others. And I did it on my terms, in my way and in my time. Transformation and reinvention was the result, and i to the power of 3 was born. Its all about spending the time and effort to grow; learning through the failures and
